Backstage :: Purple Meeting Point – Paradise Complex

Backstage, is really your home away from home. It’s a great place to drop in to and meet new friends. The boys are very welcoming without being pushy. If you want to sit and chat with your friends, or read on your own, you can. If you want to buy a boy a drink, you can too.

They also have a good kitchen, which turns out a really nice daily special and has a small menu of food choices. The spring rolls are wonderful! Opening 1 p.m. – 2 (?) a.m. Sometimes there are big parties at Backstage, but more often it’s just what you make it. They support other venues and are active in supporting the community.

For all their customers they offer free use of Wifi. It’s not the sort of place you have to dress up. Simply “come as you are.”

Aquarius Guesthouse – Paradise Complex

They advertise themselves as the only “men only” guesthouse!

They are the second soi from the action in Paradise, so are a little quieter than some other places.

The rooms are good and clean and offer all the facilities you’d expect. They list: Free American breakfast: Free entrance to all their facilities: No extra tax or charge: No joiner fee: Lots of free extras included: Monthly prices available all year long

They also have a Sauna and offer massage facilities as well as a very good restaurant and bar! In fact this just about covers all the things you could want from a holiday without leaving the place!

We tried their massage and noted they have correct massage tables with facewells (although there was a pillow over it). The rooms were spotlessly clean and there was a really efficient shower after. It was a nice set up.

Baan Phil – 35/22-23 Rat-U-Thit 200 Pee Road, Patong

This is a nice, gay owned, hotel, about 10 minutes walk along the main road from the Paradise Complex. It is owned by two French men both called Phil and they do a good job. The restaurant is well priced and serves tasty (mainly) Thai dishes. The rooms are clean and spacious and a good price.

This is certainly one to put on your “do look at” list.

C.C. Bloom’s Hotel – 84/21 Patak Soi 10, Karon

The hotel is located in a secluded and quiet area near Kata and Karon beaches, just 20 minutes south of Patong on Phuket Island.

Nestled on the hills of Kata, CC Bloom’s overlooks the beautiful Kata Bay.  There really are great views of the bay, and it is peaceful and quiet. If you want hustle and bustle, this is not the place for you. Quiet and relaxing – it scores every time!

The rooms feel Thai in style, yet they are set up to Western standards. All the mod cons – from Air Conditioning to great showers, flat screen TVs with satellite, safes, etc etc.

The café serves good food, both Western and Thai, and their staff will help you plan your visit and get to the places you’ve only maybe dreamed of.

Connect – Paradise Complex

One of the stalwarts of the area. The Connect Guesthouse is a remarkable institution.

They opened in 1998 and are still here as a popular hotel and hang-out in Paradise Complex.

The rooms are clean and reasonably priced. The facilities are all that you’d expect from a better guesthouse. The bar is welcoming and the staff are by and large, quick and efficient. They’re certainly friendly.

The restaurant does a good range of food, well cooked and very tasty. Look out on Thursdays for the Thai buffet – at 200B it’s great value.

They also do amazing  “Private Island Gay Day Tours” on Saturdays. More information on the events page here.

I’ve stayed here, and would definitely come back.

Small disadvantage, the main building is right on the main club soi, so the music goes on till late. However, they do have other buildings, just a stone’s throw away, and if a quiet early night is what you’re looking for, then just ask for the quiet building.

You can read all about it here – www.connectguesthouse.com

Their website has links to all sorts of interesting places on Phuket. Do check it out.

The Corner Bakery Shop – Paradise Complex

This is a very welcoming coffee shop on the corner of the main Paradise Complex soi.It does the full range of coffees and has a wonderful selection of cakes. It’s perfect for “picking up” a weary traveller as you rest in the air conditioning out of the Summer’s heat.

Spent a good few hours in there. There is wi-fi to use (but I don’t think it’s theirs)

Good Time Bar & Restaurant – Rawai

It opened on the 25th February and has been doing good trade since. It’s a little tucked away, being in Rawai, but it’s not hard to find. The food is good, the drinks are cheap and the service is wonderful. The lads are helpful and smart – what more could you want?

They have a facebook page with lots of photos here – http://www.facebook.com/pages/GOOD-TIME-BAR-RESTAURANT/230581867014371

Home Dining by Club One Seven – 9/9-10 Prachanukroh Road

Nice restaurant in the Club One Seven Complex. It’s open all day from 8am for breakfast to 11pm for dinner. They do a great range of foods and their menu includes yummy Thai food, sandwiches, snacks – you get the picture.

Prices are right, the service is fast and accurate and we had a good time there.

Jan Bar and Restaurant – Paradise Complex

Small bar on the South end of the complex, out of the limelight. It’s not too busy. The food comes from a small Thai kitchen next door.

Newspaper – Paradise Complex

Newspaper Boutique Inn offers 7 rooms. The building is designed and decorated in a Luxury Classic Style.

The rooms are clean, well appointed and give you a good class of stay. However, like many places they suffer from noise from the club soi.

The restaurant is open all day and offers indoor (air conditioned) or outdoor dining. The style is up-market and the menu (which specialises in Thai cooking) reflects this. It’s not budget, but the quality of food justifies the price. Good place for a special night out.

Seahag Restaurant – 78/5 Permpong Soi 3

“The Sea Hag” is a fine restaurant, specializing in sea food and an expert presentation of traditional Thai recipes that Khun Kenya has learned and kept over the years. It’s been there since 1991 so they must be doing something right!

To get there, walk along beach road and look for the (tiny) Soi Dr Wattana sign. The Seahag is down the soi on the right with a big blue and red sign.

The menu is great. They do a wonderful starters platter for 2 (or more) and that’s good value and gives you a taste of everything. The main courses specialise on fish, but there is a good range of meats and other dishes. The prices are what you’d expect to pay for top-quality food (mains from around 220B for chicken or pork to 370B for fish and more for the “very” specials such as lobster).

The restaurant décor is interesting with many nice pictures of the stars. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. The service is quick enough, yet not hurried. All in all it’s a wonderful place to go and have a special meal. They always seem to be busy, and this again must say something about their quality. I had the steamed fish with chilli and lemon and I can’t wait to go back again!

The Sea Hag is open seven days a week, serving lunch from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, and dinner from about 6:00 PM to the closing of the kitchen, which is generally around midnight.

Sundowner’s Bistro – Paradise Complex

Super restaurant!

If a Nicky review starts that way, you know the place is good! The menu is extensive and all well cooked. There is a range of dishes from English breakfast, soups and starters (the Tempura is wonderful), burgers, sandwiches, European dishes (including roasts), Thai food and Japanese. They also offer a bar delivery service. All the prices are right, if not cheap, and the service is friendly, swift and accurate. I ordered cottage pie one night and was told it would be 15 minutes. I said OK. It arrived EXACTLY 15 minutes later – and by the way it was EXTREMELY tasty. We ate there several times and it would be high on our list to return.
